Weather and School Closures
The most common cause of enforced school closure at short notice is bad weather.
In the event of severe weather, Oasis Academy Mayfield will endeavour to open when we can, but whilst inconvenient, we absolutely need to be confident that we have sufficient cover in the school and mobility around the school site, to ensure the safety of students and staff.
In the event the academy opened in the morning, but was forced to close part way through the day due to the deterioration of weather conditions which meant an issue for students and staff getting home safely, parents and carers would be notified as soon as possible and all students given a letter detailing the decision and ongoing advice.

How can parents, carers and students prepare for all eventualities during the development of bad weather conditions:
- be aware of the weather forecasts – the BBC provides a useful website: www.bbc.co.uk/weather/SO19
- ensure childcare arrangements are in place if the academy is closed for the whole day
- know what you will do if the academy closes part-way through the day and make sure your child knows where to go or who will meet them if this happens
- make sure your child has a warm coat, sturdy shoes or Wellington boots, a hat, scarf and gloves
- make sure your child has enough money to catch a bus if necessary
- make sure their mobile phone is fully charged and has credit, where appropriate
