I am pleased to inform you that Oasis Academy Mayfield has been identified by Southampton City Council as a potential school for developing a resource base for children in Southampton with a visual impairment.
Currently there is no such provision in the city. Our Academy would provide places for up to 8 children from 1 September 2026.
Southampton, in recent years, has seen an increase in the number of pupils with complex needs relating to their vision impairments. Whilst the needs of most of these pupils can be met in mainstream schools, a number require more specialist provision. Oasis Academy Mayfield is proud to offer high quality education and an inclusive approach through all our work, and so I am confident that we can deliver excellent provision for these young people.
Southampton City Council will provide funding for the academy to set up the classroom area as required, and individual pupil funding for the pupils attending the base will be used for additional staffing and resources.
The Schools Admissions Code 2021 sets out a requirement for all Admission Authorities to undertake statutory consultation where they propose a variation to the provision in an academy.
The purpose of the consultation is to ensure transparency and openness on the contents of a proposal and allow parents, carers and other interested stakeholders to make a representation that will be considered as part of the determination of the proposal.
Your feedback is important to us, and we welcome your views on the proposed changes. Please click on the link below to complete our survey.
