On Thursday 5th December, we held our first PSHE (Personal, social, health and economic education) day at Oasis Academy Mayfield, with students and staff taking part in a wide variety of activities.
Year 7 were lucky enough to have visiting speakers from the NHS on COPD, the STAR project looking at relationships and sessions on Mental Health and Wellbeing & Growth Mindset. The students really enjoyed the workshops and our visiting speakers commented on how well they engaged with the sessions.
Year 8 had an incredibly exciting day at Fairthorne Manor with their tutors taking part in team building activities, such as abseiling and using low ropes. Lots of fun was had as well as getting muddy and messy.
Year 9 spent the day working with the team from the National Enterprise challenge. Their task for the day was to design a healthy energy bar to pitch and sell. The winning team are off to the National finals at the International Conference Centre, Birmingham in July 2020 competing against other schools from across the country.
Year 10 were visited by Humanutopia who delivered a full day workshop called “Who Am I?” focusing heavily on how to be the best version of yourself. It was a highly emotional and thought provoking day which seemed to have an incredible impact on the cohort.
Year 11 had a ‘Next Steps & Exam preparation’ day with visitors from Solent University, sessions on exam stress, cognitive load, flash card strategy and revision skills to prepare for their mock exams and their real exams in 2020.
The day was an incredibly successful and we would like to thank all of our visiting speakers and staff for making this such a fantastic day for our students.
