In support of National Careers Week 2020, we hosted a variety of careers events here at Oasis Academy Mayfield.
The week began with some excellent feedback from our recent PSHE day. In January, Year 9 and Year 10 students were able to experience speed networking with employers and find out the essentials required for succeeding in interviews. The evaluations by EBP South Ltd, is now available and can be download here. We are delighted that so many of our students benefitted from the experience!
On Wednesday 4th March, Lizzie and Annie from Trinity College, Cambridge joined us. We were privileged to have such a useful session in higher education, particularly Oxford and Cambridge. We also had a medicine seminar which our students could attend. Many of students commented on how interesting and inspiring the sessions were.
On Thursday, we welcomed Hampshire Police. This was fantastic opportunity for students to find about careers within the police force. The group had some excellent question for the team.
Our second City Ambitions session also took place on Thursday. We were very pleased to welcome Agnes Harper and Emma Pringle from SUN and Ally Phillips from Southampton City Council. They ran sessions with our Year 11's to think about their next steps. We are thrilled with the feedback from them about our students:
“We had a brilliant morning with your students. You know when you get a bunch of students that just ‘get it’? Well, judging by the comments on our evaluations, they really did! The students were an absolute credit to the academy, well-behaved, engaging, sensible and a joy to work with.”
“I was very impressed with your students and I left the school feeling motivated and excited for the next visit!”
Finally, on Friday we had our last careers talk of #NCW2020 with Fleur Brewer from the Merchant Navy. We found out what the differences were between the Merchant and Royal Navy and the different careers available on board.
If you missed the careers talk - never fear! Our Futures Week is 6th to 10th July and there will be opportunities for workplace visits and further career talks for all year groups.
