The wait for GCSE results is over as students across the country returned to school one final time to collect their grades from their examinations earlier this summer. The young people of Oasis Academy Mayfield had much to celebrate given the impressive improvements in attainment this cohort have achieved.
Particularly impressive were the Academy’s best-ever English results, with a 20% improvement from the previous year, setting a new best for the Academy. Other subjects making significant improvements were Geography with a 14% improvement, Science with a 7% improvement and History with a 9% improvement.
Attainment was particularly good in Philosophy and Ethics where 73% achieved a grade 4 or above, Biology where 77% achieved a grade 4 or above, Food Technology where 90% achieved a grade 4 or above and PE where 100% achieved a grade 4 or above.
46% of students at Oasis Academy Mayfield have achieved a grade 4 or above in English and maths this year and there was a 6% improvement in students gaining both English and Maths at Level 5.
There has also been a 30% increase of the number of students passing the English Baccalaureate suite of qualifications, which is testament to the exceptional quality of teaching across a range of core subjects at the Academy.
In addition, a number of students have achieved superb individual results:
Thomas Jesson has secured a 7 and a 9 in English and Maths and a further two 9s in Science, an 8 in Geography and 4 further GCSEs at grade 6 or above. He will be going on to Barton Peverill college to study Economics, Maths and Further Maths.

Commenting on Oasis Academy Mayfield’s results, Principal Claire Taylor says;
“We are delighted for our young people who have worked so hard for these results. GCSE Results Day is always an exciting celebration as our Year 11 students, after years of hard work, receive their just reward. The months running up to the exam period are often ones of considerable pressure for our young people and so I am extremely proud of them for their determination and dedication to achieve these excellent results.
Credit must also go to our staff who are so dedicated to our students and the support they have given to help them reach their potential.
Today it was fantastic to hear about the future plans and dreams of our students and we wish them all well on the next part of their journey”.
