Careers education at the Academy is embedded within all aspects of Academy life. Primarily, careers education is provided through our bespoke PSHE drop down days which include a range of activities and opportunities including work related workshops. We provide a range of internal opportunities; inviting visitors to the Academy to talk about work-related learning, apprenticeships and other related topics. Additionally, careers guidance is available at our Year 10 and Year 11 Parents Evenings. We are particularly proud that we receive visitors from the University of Southampton, Solent University, the Speakers for Schools trust, the Speakers Trust, Humanutopia and many more. We also provide a range of external opportunities taking our students to the local Universities; Winchester, Solent University and the University of Southampton and to our local colleges including Fareham College, City College and Itchen College. We also provide opportunities for workplace visits and placements including our partnership with the University Hospital and lifelab trips and Crest Nicholson.

We provide regular updates for students and parents internally and externally about the opportunities on offer within the local area. We regularly post on our Oasis Southampton Careers Facebook page with local and national updates including apprenticeship opportunities, college open evenings and information regarding the local labour market.

In Year 9 we increase the opportunities for students' CEIAG learning as this is the year that students are making decisions about their GCSE options. Each student has the opportunity to participate in masterclasses, attend lectures and take part in the LifeLab project at the General Hospital in association with Each_B (a division of the University Trust). We provide opportunities through our PSHE days for considering the employability skills needed for life as well as delivering vital information about choices in the future including attending UTCs, apprenticeships, colleges and universities.

We have also participated in the new SUN (Southern Universities Network) project which seeks to raise levels of engagement beyond KS4 into further and higher education. SUN have conducted research identifying areas across the city with the least amount of engagement beyond KS4 and have provided money to schools whose students are within specific postcodes for the sole use of being used towards careers and aspiration. SUN ask in return for students to give consent to an anonymised questionnaire, which will track the students’ progress until the age of 25 to ascertain whether the funding provided has had impact on careers and future destinations. The project has been renewed for the new academic year 2019/20.We are also proud to be hosting our annual Futures Week, which this academic year 2019/20 will be including all year groups and providing internal and external opportunities for all year groups. In the past, this week has included taster day visits at college, Universities (Southampton and Winchester), our bespoke World of Work Day (WoW day) and meeting employers e.g. ABP, NHS, Finance, a trip to Wembley Stadium for the Rock Assembly Careers Fair for more global opportunities.
