There are two strands to the Shooting Stars Programme:

Active Play Through Storytelling - KS1

In a nutshell:

• Supports the development of fundamental movement skills and physical literacy
• Delivered through creative play and storytelling
• Specifically targets girls who are inactive/ have low levels of physical literacy
• Opportunity for girls to reflect on behaviours and understand their impact on self and others
• Provides opportunities to practice at home

Girls’ Football Club - KS1 + 2

In a nutshell:

• Builds on their sporting confidence and competence of fundamental movement skills developed in Active Play Through Storytelling
• Using Marvel storytelling, girls are Introduced to basic football movements
• Girls develop basic understanding and competence in invasion game principles
• Opportunity for girls to reflect on behaviours and understand their impact on self and others
• Provides opportunities to practice at home

WHAT IS THE GAME OF OUR OWN PROGRAMME?

The Game of Our Own – supported by Barclays programme supports secondary school teachers in exploring how to engage girls in curriculum PE through an innovative life skills approach. There are an array of cross-curricular resources on offer through Barclays LifeSkills programme, supporting schools to not only deliver through curriculum PE, but develop the transferable skills of their young people in English, PSHE and in preparation for the world of work.

1. GOOO: Digital

A wide range of resources to support you as a teacher to introduce a life skills approach to your PE delivery. All of these resources are free to access using the links below once you have registered as a user on this site.

2. GOOO: Teacher (Available only to schools within GFSP’s)

GOOO: Teacher has been designed to support teachers to develop a new approach to delivering PE in their schools through a life skills focus. The GOOO teacher training will focus on exploring how teachers can engage girls in curriculum physical education through football, identify and develop life skills and support girls to be empowered to lead football-related activity for others. It will be delivered by members of the YST Learning Academy and FA PE Unit staff.

3. GOOO: Leadership (Available only to schools within GFSP’s)

Schools engaging in GOOO: Teacher this year or schools that have previously undertaken Game Of Our Own Training last year will be supported to establish and deliver extra-curricular girls football clubs or activity led by their girls’ football activators. The girls’ football activators can follow one of two leadership pathways; marketing or delivery. The girls selected to be football activators will be able to access kit, resources and leadership training to support them in their roles.

We will:

• Launch clear and accessible opportunities and programmes for women and girls to play football where and how they wish – and progress if they wish to.
• Promote the Playmaker Award to encourage women to take a first step in coaching football.
• Deploy an increased number of FA-qualified female coaches and referees where they are most needed.

All leading to:

• 50 primary and secondary schools offering equal access to football for girls in PE lessons by 2022.
• Double the number of FA-qualified female coaches and referees.
• 500 more women playing football in Southampton’s most deprived wards by creating sustainable recreational football opportunities.
