As part of the Oasis global family each of the Oasis Academies are linked with two countries where Oasis work. The Academies are in a unique position to maximise opportunities for their students to experience first hand diversity of culture, and to build knowledge, understanding and empathy through establishing relationships with their linked countries.

Special Visitors From Oasis South Africa
On Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th November 2011, Oasis Academy Mayfield hosted a special visit by two staff from Oasis South Africa: Kutloano (Scotch) Toko, and Anathi Pefile.

During the two days Scotch and Anathi took part in a variety of lessons including Geography, Maths, PE, ICT and Science in order to get a flavour of Academy life in England. They made time to talk with staff and students and share their experiences from South Africa. Students had an opportunity to ask a variety of questions about the country, how they live and work and their education system.
During one particular Resistant Materials lesson, Laura Bull 8L, made a beautiful South African flag jigsaw puzzle for our South African visitors. Laura said: "I just wanted to be nice and make something nice, so they can show everyone what a nice courtry we are. I wanted to make a puzzle so they can learn and make it themselves". Scotch and Anathi were absolutely delighted to recieve such a special gift and were very impressed with all the students they met.
An exciting development in our special relationship with Oasis South Africa (OSA) has been an agreement to sponsor the employment of a Community Health worker. Cosmo City, north west of Johannesburg, suffers many social and economic challenges ranging from HIV to unemployment. The particular area OSA serves, has over 90,000 residents but no public health clinic. Their aim is to reduce the incidence of HIV, preventing AIDS and empowering people to take responsibility for their own wellness.
We have committed to raise £100 per month, which is the salary the worker will receive and we have already been able to send out the first 6 months support, thanks to a generous donation from the congregation of City Life Church. We are now looking to raise the next 6 months support and there will be an opportunity to invest in this wonderful work at the Christmas Carol Concert on Thursday 15th December.
Our links with Oasis South Africa were recently strengthened by a visit to Mayfield by two of their Youth Workers, Scotch and Anathi, who brought a distinctly African sound and movement to assemblies and classes - find more information on www.oasisza.org

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
