We have had a good response to the 'Ask Steve' boxes placed in the Schools. We felt the best way to give the answers to your questions would be on the website so below are the responses from Steve...

Q. What time will the schools start and finish?
Steve says: The Lower School will start at 8.30 am and finish at 2.35pm
The Upper School will start at 9am and finish at 3.15pm

Q. Do we have an 8 week holiday this summer?
Steve says: Your school will be closed to pupils from July 18th and will re-open as the Academy on September 10th.

Q. Is there going to be a school bus?
Steve says: Oasis Academy Mayfield is talking to First Bus at the moment and it is looking very likely that there will be some kind of school bus, we still need to clarify whether or not there will be a charge to parents and what that charge might be.

Q: How many lessons have we got a day? 
Steve says: This will vary as some lessons will be scheduled as double lessons, but basically there will be 6 periods.

Q: How much time do we get for lunch and break, is there a gym or swimming pool?
Steve says: The lunch break is 25 minutes. There is no swimming pool on site, but there is the sport hall and plenty of outside space.

Q: Do you do any running sports?
Steve says: Yes

Q: Are there cooking lessons?
Steve says: Yes, there will be cooking lessons.

Q: Do we get to do sports clubs?
Steve says: Yes

Q: Do you have a basketball team?
Steve says: Not yet but there may be in the future if there is enough interest!

Q: Will there be a range of different activities?
Steve says: Yes, there will be a very wide range of activities for you to take part in.

Q: What trips are there?
Steve says: There will be a variety of trips, the first one for the new Year 7’s will be a trip to Osmington Bay – you will have already received information about this.

Q: Do you get your own laptop?
Steve says: We are awaiting confirmation of the IT provision.

Q: How long do the clubs after school last?
Steve says: This will vary depending on which club you go to.

Q: Is there a sports centre we can go to?
Steve says: Grove Park has its own sports hall.

Q: When will we get the school uniform that the school provide?
Steve says: You have been sent dates for the collection of uniform over the Summer break.

Q: Will there be a place for people if they’re being bullied?
Steve says: There will be lots of extra support for children who are feeling vulnerable.

Q: Will there be cameras in the lockers?
Steve says: No.

Q: Do you have to be a certain age to use the gym?
Steve says: This will be confirmed in September.

Q: How many different teachers will we have?
Steve says: In year 7 you will have a teacher that stays with you for most of the time, in addition you will have some different subject teachers.

Q: I am scared I am going to walk into the wrong class room.
Steve says: There are going to be 60 prefects on the Lower School site and they will be trained to help you find your way around, so no need to worry.
