Students at Oasis Academy Mayfield study all the National Curriculum core subjects. As an independent school we employ innovative approaches to Teaching and Learning.
Our goal is to create an environment where students 'want' to learn rather than 'have' to learn. State of the art computing facilities enhance teaching in the classroom and facilitate independent learning by students in Academy study areas.
Personalised Teaching and Learning plans include continued monitoring and analysis of the educational needs of young people which in turn leads to increased achievement; and positive inclusion of children with disabilities and learning difficulties.
The Academy will develop with keen regard to the rapidly changing diversity of cultures and needs within Southampton both now and in the future. By listening to the voices of young people, staff and families, we can ensure that provision is appropriate.
An expectation of high standards in academic and vocational studies guides our Academies programme and adds value to the achievement, attainment and skills of students in numeracy, literacy and other core areas. We are committed to improving the life-chances of all young people, refusing to accept that some should be excluded from the main curriculum and opportunities accessed by the wider Academy population. Raising the quality of teaching and learning to that of the best will be a high priority, which will encompass a clear and focused agenda of assessment for learning.
The Academy will create a learning environment where the skills, abilities and characters of individual students are developed and enhanced, recognising not only that every child is unique, but also that every child matters.
Our role is to develop a broad and balanced curriculum that enables students to enjoy their learning, encourages and widens their aspirations, and enhances their opportunities to succeed.
The promotion of positive attitudes, mutual respect and an appreciation of the need to be responsible citizens both within the Academy (community) and beyond into the local community is of paramount importance to instil in each student the value of social responsibility.
This gives the advantage of having a generous supply of teaching spaces to accommodate the amalgamation of the two predecessor schools, with only minimal need for temporary classroom accommodation during construction phases.
The Academy is divided into KS3 at The Grove site and KS4 at Porchester Road, Woolston. This means that both staff and resources can be targeted to the relevant Key Stage more effectively to support learning. Students are provided with a site that is dedicated to providing appropriate study facilities. This gives them a supportive, focused environment helping them reach their full potential.
We are committed to minimising staff movement between sites during the working day. However, we encourage movement where a degree of cross-fertilisation is required to build consistency of practice and a common ethos.
For KS4 students we will ensure continuity of courses and syllabi and will make every effort to maintain existing staffing arrangements.
For the 2008/2009 school year there will be high priority placed on pastoral care for the KS4 students. We will deploy extra resources such as Learning Mentors and an Inclusion and Student Development Director will ensure a co-ordinated approach to meeting individual needs.
Learning mentors and teaching assistants have been maintained to provide focussed support for the individual. The introduction of a Managed Learning Environment not only supports students but also facilitates communication to and from parents.
The strong, existing links with FE partners across the city will be built upon and developed to ensure that students have access to a wide variety of choice at KS4.
The Academy will work alongside other secondary partners within the Secondary Partnership as the 14- 19 agenda embraces the diplomas. Key senior personnel will be deployed to participate in and contribute to the city’s 14-19 implementation working groups. Timetable structures and curriculum choices at both KS3 and KS4 have been designed to support the role of the specialism within the 14-19 agenda.
The wellbeing and personal development of all will be a high priority as is evidenced by the creation of a specific Well Being Learning Zone.
Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
