About Oasis Academy Mayfield...
Oasis Academy Mayfield is part of the Government's programme to provide up to 400 Academies in England and Wales over the next few years.
Oasis Academy Mayfield opened in September 2008, replacing Grove Park Business and Enterprise College and Woolston School Language College, which both closed in August 2008. Oasis Academy Mayfield is using the existing buidings of the two sites and will transfer across to a purpose built and iconic new building on the Grove Park site during the academic year beginning September 2011.
Oasis Community Learning
The Academy is sponsored by Oasis Community Learning which was established in 2004 with the express purpose of developing Oasis Academies. Its roots are strongly based in the charity Oasis, a Christian organisation that was founded by Steve Chalke M.B.E. in 1985. Beginning its work in the UK, Oasis now delivers educational, healthcare and housing projects across the world.
Admissions
The Academy initially caters for approximately 1,150 students in the 11-16 age range. All places at the Academy are free and available to the local community within an admissions policy that mirrors the inclusive admissions arrangements for community schools in Southampton. At the time of the opening of the new building, the Academy will offer 5 forms of entry (5FE) – for a predicted 900 students aged 11-16.
Specialism
The specialist focus of the Academy is Global Communication. With a focus on lifelong learning, each student’s provision provides a careful and personalised balance between practical training and academic education. As an independent school, we employ innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
Our goal
The Academy’s goal is to create an environment where students 'want' to learn rather than 'have' to learn. State of the art computing facilities provide an essential tool to enhance teaching in the classroom and facilitate independent learning whilst the Academy’s study areas provide students with further autonomy in their learning.
